Since 2016, RYTHM Foundation has been partnering with the Child’s Dream Foundation in community development projects by building and expanding schools in remote and rural areas of the Mekong Sub Region. The core objective is to widen access to education for children living in these communities.
Our latest initiative is an on-going project to construct one additional building for Phonsai Secondary School in Laos. The school was established in 1987 and currently has more than 1,500 students enrolled, with 70% of them from remote and far away villages.
RYTHM Foundation’s contribution of USD 60,000 to Child’s Dream Foundation is being utilised to fund the construction project, which has begun in April 2017. Upon completion, the school will have an addition of six classrooms and four toilets, which will be crucial in resolving issues of overcrowding and sanitation currently faced by the school.
In Laos, primary education is universal and free for every child up to Grade 5, which has contributed to a high primary school enrolment rate. However, the lack of infrastructure in small towns and rural areas hold the students back from continuing their education to the secondary level. The Foundation hopes that expansion of the secondary school in Phonsai district will also play a role in raising the low rate of secondary school enrolment.
Going forward, RYTHM Foundation plans to continue its education initiatives as a mean of empowering and uplifting underprivileged communities.
