QI Group staff Ree Joie Illao @ree_joie shares her perspective on what makes volunteers to keep coming back and volunteering.
“I’m from the Philippines and live in Malaysia. I don’t speak the local language here, so I’m unable to converse with the people when I volunteer in local community projects. But I can read the happiness on their faces. That is enough to motivate me do more.
“During Hari Raya, we took a group of children from an orphanage on a shopping trip. I realised how things such as shopping for festive clothes, which most people take for granted, mean so much to the children who do not have parents to do it for them. It makes me feel grateful for everything I have,” she says.
